Review Summary:

Unveiled at the Moscow International Motor Show in 2012, the is a stunning sedan that is currently in its third generation and faces competition from its slightly old-fashioned and conventional Toyota Camry and Nissan Altima rivals.

Pros

It trumps its competitors on all counts; price, performance and features.

Cons

Would take a lot of convincing to stop people from buying a Toyota and opt for a Mazda instead.

Looks

It’s sharp, it’s striking, it’s fresh and it’s everything its competitors aren’t. With headlamps that house LED strips and integrates neatly into the five point grille, coupled with neat contours along the body and a chrome strip on the boot deck lid, the 2014 Mazda6 is a stunner! In a segment where competitors try to one-up each other with tweaks that almost go unnoticed, the Mazda6 is a gush of excitement.

Feels

Catered more for those who are after a slightly sportier sedan, the Mazda6 makes its sporting pretensions clear with red stitching along the door panels, paddle shifters behind the steering wheel and seats that try their level best to make you feel like a Japanese boy racer. In comparison to its rivals, the cabin is better made, looks like it belongs to the next century and is most definitely, more comfortable.

Engineering

Following in the footsteps of luxury German automobile manufacturers, who equip their vehicles with rotary knobs to control aspects of the infotainment system, the Mazda6 is fitted with a Commander Switch, which allows users to control the audio, navigation and Bluetooth, right from the centre console.

On offer

While the 2.0 litre engine puts out a decent 155 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque, the meatier 2.5 litre variant churns out 185 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. Though it won’t be winning any drag races any time soon, the 6 speed automatic transmission pushes power to the front wheels and allows the Japanese sedan to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in an impressive 8.5 seconds.

Verdict

In monetary terms, the 2014 Mazda6 trumps its competition by being AED 2,000 less than the Nissan Altima and AED 12,000 less than the Toyota Camry. In terms of features, it’s pretty much the same story, as the Mazda packs in features the competition hasn’t even thought about. Finally, in terms of performance, the scales tip once again towards the Mazda6 as it offers the most engaging drive of the bunch. It’s a clear winner, really.

Thanks for the review, best vehicle “value for money” with features, safety, styling none offers in this segment. Need more focus on advertising to bring people’s attention that it’s true value for money car.

May i know when will be Mazda3 get reviewed?
