Review Summary:

The Octavia is a mid-size sedan that fights against veterans such as the Mitsubishi Lancer and Honda Civic for a piece of the pie. At first glance, the Octavia has wiped its competition out, but there’s something stopping it from wiping them off the market completely…

Pros

Styling that is strong enough to turn heads.

Cons

Due to zilch advertising, absolutely nobody is aware of this vehicle's existence.

Looks

It’s got a slatted grille, smoked headlamps, a nice set of wheels to match and a wink-worthy rear end. Compared to its Japanese rivals, the Czech built 2014 Skoda Octavia is a supermodel at an old age home. Yes, it’s just that much hotter…

Feels

Splashes of chrome can be found around the cabin, but clearly, the flavour of the month when the cabin was being put together was hard plastic. Now, although we’d usually have a massive issue with this, with the Skoda Octavia, we wish we could high-five the designers for creating a smart cabin that is heaps better than the sorts found in the space-age inspired Honda Civic and outrightly dated Mitsubishi Lancer.

Engineering

It’s unheard of and quite frankly, unexpected, to find anything more than a five to six speed transmission in a vehicle belonging to this segment of the market. Well, the 2014 Skoda Octavia is a little bit of an innovator. Equipped with a 7 speed automatic transmission, the Czech sedan is a isn’t just unique, but fuel efficient too as it sips just 3.8 litres of fuel in exchange for 100 kilometres of distance.

What’s on offer?

Three versions of the 2014 Skoda Octavia are available; the Ambition, Elegance and Elegance Plus. While the Ambition and Elegance are powered by a 140 horsepower 1.4 litre engine, the Elegance Plus receives a turbocharged 1.8 litre that ups the horsepower to a respectable 180.

Summing it…

You’re probably asking yourself what’s a Skoda? And do they even have any showrooms in Dubai? Well, yes they do and although you may not have ever seen Skoda’s on the road, you definitely need to add them to your list when looking at getting yourself a fun city runabout. It’s innovative, advanced and above all , unique.
