Review Summary:

The Jimny is a that has been around since 1969, currently only its third generation, the 2014 Jimny hasn’t been changed since 1998 and that friends, is a wonderful thing. Going against the Nissan Juke, the Jimny has a massive edge, its potential.


Exterior styling follows "if it ain't broke, why fix it" thinking.


If I were to be extremely fussy, I'd say the leaf springs could be replaced with shock absorbers.


Sixteen years, that’s a long, long time! Now usually for a car that hasn’t been altered for this long, I’d say the design is dull, tired and a lot of other things, but that isn’t the case with the Jimny. With a hood scoop and squarish headlamps up front, coupled with a 2,250mm wheelbase and a simplistic rear end, the 2014 Suzuki Jimny is simply impressive.

If you’re looking for fancy soft touch materials and a cabin loaded with tech, then quite frankly you’re looking at the wrong car. Just how the exterior is all functional and no extra, the interior follows the same mantra. It’s cloth seats, a rubber steering wheel and a decent amount of plastic that you get, but to be honest, it’s practical more than anything else.

A high-performance braking system includes large-diameter front disc brakes with superior heat dispersion. An eight-inch servo amplifies braking force, so less effort needs to be applied to the pedal—a difference you’ll appreciate as much on rain-soaked roads as on loose gravel.

84 horsepower at 5,500 RPM and 110 Nm of torque at 4,500 RPM is what the 1.3 litre 4 cylinder engine puts out. Now before you start hitting out at the Jimny with your carping criticism, it’s worth noting that Suzuki’s mini SUV weighs just 1,060 kilograms! With a short wheelbase, punchy engine, 4 speed automatic or 5 speed manual transmission and light feet, it’s no surprise the Jimny dominates everything from the dunes to the treacherous rocks.

The 2014 Suzuki Jimny is no big bully, in fact, it’s that small, rough and tough kid in the class. The same small, rough and tough kid that could very well drink the bigger bully’s milk if he wanted to during lunch break. Just to make it clear, the Suzuki Jimny may be small, but it eats its competitors for breakfast; effortlessly.
