Review Summary:

The 508 replaced both the old 407 and 607, and for a large saloon car it isn’t actually all that bad. It certainly boasts one of the better interiors. But do look at all options before you commit.

Pros

Nice interior and spacious. Good features

Cons

Exterior looks and price compared to rivals. Lack of engine options.

Looks

The 2014 Peugeot 508 is a peculiar looking car. For creativity you only need to look at the front, where a lot of effort has gone into making the car stand out from its rivals. It almost looks as if it has been designed upside down, with the customary high-placed Peugeot badge sitting forlornly in its own crevice. The rest of the car is unremarkable, with a slate-flat rear and featureless sides.

Feels

It would seem that Peugeot has spent more time working on the interior of the 508 than anything else. And we are pleased to report that they haven’t done a bad job. The controls feel far sturdier than in other models, and the architecture works quite well. Space isn’t bad either, and passengers will enjoy the comfortable seats.

Engineering

The 508 comes with plenty of features, including such fancy tricks as a Head-Up Display, electric sunroof, speed-sensitive steering wheel, and four-zone air-conditioning. Peugeot expect this car to be more appealing to the family-man as opposed to the executive, and as such it comes with six air-bags and reinforced side protection.

What’s on offer?

The 508 only comes in one model in the UAE; the Allure. Under the bonnet you will find a 1.6 litre turbo-charged engine capable of emitting 156hp and 240Nm of torque. Peugeot offer 5 years unlimited extended mileage warranty and 20,000km of free servicing. All this costs only AED 114,400.

Summing it…

Japanese saloons have a strangle-hold on the market in the UAE, and the fact that the 508 only comes with a 1.6 litre engine means that it will face tough opposition. You certainly do get a lot of features, and the space in the back is better than most. But that odd-looking front end is going to put it at a disadvantage. Keep an eye on it, but don’t rush out to buy one until you have seen the alternatives.

In my view the 508 is the best in its segment. It is very well equipped and offers great value for money. The engine is powerful and offers plenty of torque even at low RPM.The interior is very comfortable and feels very cozy.
