Review Summary:

Believed to be ’s best selling model across America since 2010, the SRX is a premium mid-size crossover that is currently in its second generation and competes against the likes of the Audi Q5 and Lexus RX.

Pros

Interior quality and finishing
Standard features
Well priced

Cons

Exterior styling

Looks

The 2014 Cadillac SRX is a tubby little crossover, that possesses the classic grille, headlights and tail lamps that make it instantly identifiable as an offering from the American brand. Everything seems to be larger than necessary on the SRX and quite frankly, that’s what earns it a large score on the ‘unappealing meter’ as well.

Feels

Inside, it’s a completely different story. A collection of plush leather, brushed aluminium and chrome trim adorn the neat and well laid out dashboard, while the centre console houses Cadillac’s capacitive touch switches which slide out of the way to reveal a secret compartment. Seating up to five individuals is dealt with effortlessly, and boot space measures in at 847 litres with the second row seats in place or 1,730 litres when stowed away.

Engineering

Safety plays a big role in the SRX and that probably makes sense, since small family buyers who would opt for this vehicle are known to put the welfare of their passengers above all else. While a rear vision camera and adaptive cruise control are optional equipment, blind spot alert and rear cross traffic alert are impressively standard affair.

What’s on offer?

Below the hood is a 3.6 litre V6 engine that sends 308 horsepower and 357 Nm of torque through a  6 speed transmission to all four wheels. The 2014 Cadillac SRX wears a starting price of AED 170,000, which ironically is exactly what the Audi Q5 costs; however the Lexus RX is a dash extra at AED 180,000.

Summing it…

At the end of the day, the 2014 Cadillac SRX is a great offering from the American brand. Well priced and well equipped, the Caddy is a splendid crossover to consider, once you’ve got over its looks.
