2014 Mercedes-Benz SL | new car review
Price for top end models
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz SL is, like its brothers and sisters, is a fine looking car. It bears the now familiar face of Mercedes mixed with stylish creases. Behind the front wheel arches there are sharp grilles, leaving a brace of sexy contours in its wake.
The SL all feels very lightweight. Not in the derogatory sense, but when referring to the materials used (hardly surprising since that is what SL actually stands for). Stylish leather and all manner of high-end materials are laced throughout, making the SL feel exceptionally classy.
Mercedes has built the SL with the usual assortment of goodies, including a media interface, intelligent lights and a Harman Kardon surround sound system. Then there are the usual tricks like active parking assist and a DVD changer. The sports package option is intended to provide a superb driving experience.
What’s on offer?
Four versions of the SL are on offer, with the SL 350 being the way in at AED 380,000. Prices climb steadily, the SL 500 will set you back AED 467,000 and the SL 63 AMG will leave you AED 610,000 lighter. For the more elaborate car-shopper, the SL 65 AMG costs an eye-watering AED 886,000. This model produces 630hp and 1000Nm of torque.
The SL will offer you a stylish and comfortable ride. Like a lot of other premium Mercedes models, the SL is not what you would call an economical purchase. But if you can afford one then no one will be laughing at you; they’ll be asking for a ride.
