Review Summary:

The Tahoe is a part of General Motors family and hasn’t been redesigned since the past 9 years. Its closely related, more upscale brother wears the GMC badge and is known as the GMC Yukon.

With squarish headlamps, a rectangular mesh grille, a neatly sculpted hood and a beefy bumper up front, the 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe looks good for a car that was last redesigned nearly a decade ago. Towards the sides, the Tahoe loses its charm and is exceptionally bland, with the dullness continuing to the rear with boxy straight lines for the windshield and tail lamps.

Feels

Inside, the 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe is airy, spacious and everything you’d expect a large American SUV to be. Starting from the centre armrest that could easily double up as a dining table for two, right up to the head and leg room for rear passengers, the Tahoe is far from cramped. However, with cupholders that fold out of the transmission tunnel for the second row passengers and a clear, yet unsuccessful attempt to conceal hard plastics, cost cutting measures are evident.

Engineering

The 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe is equipped with an Autotrac active transfer case that helps it adjust to varying road conditions. Featuring four drive modes (2HL, Auto / 4WD, 4HL and 4LO) the Tahoe seamlessly adjusts from driving in the most efficient mode to tackling steep hills and deep sand. Additionally, when rear-wheel slippage is detected, the standard rear differential kicks in and distributes power evenly to both rear wheels.

What’s on offer?

A 5.3 litre, 320 horsepower and 452 Nm of torque generating V8 is what powers the American monster. Mated to a 6 speed automatic transmission, the Tahoe reaches a 100 km/h from a standstill in 9.0 seconds and boasts a top speed of 193 km/h. For AED 159,000 you’d be able to bag an extremely basic Tahoe, however, for one with wood inserts, a multimedia screen and leather seats, the price shoots up to AED 216,000.

Summing it…

With a price tag that is AED 26,000 shy of the Toyota Land Cruiser, yet AED 39,000 more than the Ford Expedition, the 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe is in an interesting position. With the all new generation 2015 Tahoe just around the corner, going in for the 2014 model might seem a little silly, but I can guarantee you, it’s a lot better looking!
