Review Summary:

The 2014 is a Mid-Sized Sports Utility Vehicle, that isn’t very sporty. Facing competition from the likes of the Honda Pilot and Toyota Fortuner, the Trailblazer definitely isn’t the best looking of the bunch.

Pros

Capacity to seat 7 individuals

Cons

Exterior styling
Quality of materials used in the interior

Looks

The previous generation Trailblazer looked tough and had a very American vibe to it. However, since the second generation Trailblazer surfaced in 2012, I’ve always thought it looked delicate and dare I say, Korean. Up front, the 2014 Chevrolet Trailblazer wears small, nearly oval headlamps and an enormous grille; while the rear end houses LED tail lamps, and quite possibly, the largest golden bowtie in the brand’s line-up.

Feels

Pull the door open and it won’t be long before you realize, the ‘built in Thailand’ Trailblazer is oozing with economical materials. Everything from the dashboard, to the door panels, to the armrest, is made of solid plastic and emits that dreaded plastic stench. Thankfully for the Trailblazer, the rear A/C vents and the capacity to seat 7 individuals work as its saving grace.

Engineering

With a 5-star safety rating, passengers in the Trailblazer can rest easy as the frontal airbags, side curtain, and side impact airbags are neatly tucked away until they are needed in the event of a collision.

What’s on offer?

Under the hood, the 2014 Chevrolet Trailblazer hides a 3.6 litre V6 engine that produces 236 horsepower and is mated to a 6 speed transmission. Depending on whether you’re one who enjoys the dunes or not, the Trailblazer is available with a 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive layout. The basic LT variant starts at AED 95,000, however, if it’s 18” rims, steering wheel controls, chrome door handles and leather seats you’re after, the LTZ trim retails for AED 135,000.

Summing it…

The 2014 Chevrolet Trailblazer isn’t a good looking SUV, neither is it a pleasant place to be in. But then when you realize it costs AED 8,000 less than a Toyota Fortuner, and AED 39,000 less than a Honda Pilot, you begin to forgive it for its shortcomings.
