2014 Honda City | new car review

Neat touchscreen for the infotainment system in the top of the line model
Cons
Company car status
Not much model variation
Looks
The 2014 Honda City is certainly not an ugly car, nor does it stand out as a particularly pretty one. The front end has been styled in a similar fashion to that of the Civic, with a sharp grille and angular headlamps. The back is neatly arranged, which includes an ever-so subtle attempt at a rear spoiler. It certainly looks more attractive than its key rivals, namely the Hyundai Elantra and Nissan Sunny.
Feels
The interior of the City is not exactly awe-inspiring. It is simple motoring, with only the usual bare-bone equipment fitted in the text-book fashion; there are few surprises. The seats, however, are ergonomic and offer a great deal of side support. Beyond that though, there is an overwhelming sense that the City is just an appliance.
Engineering
One quirky feature of the City is its reclining rear seats, meaning that there might be some excitement for passengers after all. The suspension has also been upgraded to provide a far more comfortable ride, which together with the new rigid lightweight bodywork will improve handling.
What’s on offer?
The entry DX model starts at AED 57,000, while the EX begins at AED 74,000. Both models are fitted with the same 1.5 litre engine which belts out 118 horsepower. There isn’t too much of a difference between the two models, with the EX being fitted with extra tricks like chrome handles, fog lights, and aluminium wheels as opposed to steel rims.
Summing it…
This car is an ideal company car. It is simple and functional with a fair-sized engine that will tackle urban traffic and motorways relatively well. If you’re looking for a fun car to nip around in, then buy a Jazz for the same money. If you would prefer to own a saloon then the City is a fair choice. You won’t stand out, but you won’t be disappointed.

What is the edge of City to a Yaris? The look w/c is more sporty, the cabin space w/c is huge than Corolla, the CVT versus the old fashioned auto T/M, cruise control & high end electronic control and the name Honda!
