Review Summary:

Economical, stylish and practical. A combination that pretty much describes the 2014 ES.

Preconceived notion with the ES badge

Looks

Thought of by many as the economy Lexus, the sixth generation 2014 Lexus ES is back and looks better than ever. Proudly strutting the Lexus spindle grille, along with flowing lines and bold corners that seamlessly blend  to form an elegant body, the ES is likely to turn a lot more heads than it ever did.

Feels

With ample amounts of leather, silver accents, chrome piping and wood trim, the end result is nothing short of spectacular. With a neat, fuss-free centre console and an analogue clock to accompany, the ES ticks all the right boxes for a premium sedan. With sufficient head and leg room in the front and back, a tri-zone air conditioning system and 10-way power adjustable front seats, comfort is definitely something that hasn’t been skimped on.

Engineering

To add to an already impressive package, Lexus has packed the ES with safety features right to the brim. Front and rear sensors; front, knee, side and curtain airbags; blind spot monitoring; lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control, are all available in the 2014 Lexus ES.

What’s on offer?

Two engine variants are available in the Lexus ES range. The ES250 is fitted with the Camry sourced 2.5 litre 4 cylinder that produces a shockingly little 181 horsepower, while the ES350 is equipped with the Aurion sourced 3.5 litre V6 that produces a ‘that’s more like it’ 272 horsepower. To further enhance the feeling of driving a luxury sedan, Lexus has introduced an Acoustic Control Induction System (ACIS) into the ES range that works to reduce the intake roar under heavy acceleration.

Summing it…

It looks better than ever, and with a starting price of AED 155,000, the ES is an affordable way to prance around town with the elegant ‘L’ badge in front of you. Just don’t expect it to be parked right outside the door at fancy hotels.
