Review Summary:

Back in the late 90s and early 2000s, Mercedes proudly showcased its famous “Kompressor” badging to its supercharged models. It was simply a more sophisticated way of saying performance. Now Audi has decided to give it a go with its new “TFSI” engines, which has rendered more confusion than excitement. The A5 comes with a full line up of TFSI, A.K.A Turbo-charged, engines for 2014.




Rear headroom


The front grille is composed of a series of parallel horizontal lines that move down to the lower bumper ending at the lower front spoiler. The blend of futuristic and elegant designs is appealing with circuit shaped LED lights that tread along the border of the headlamp.  The A5 sedan is a Sportback that has a slanting roof scoring it more styling points and making it more like. The actual Coupe and Cabrio are identical to the Sedan except with 2 less doors.

An attack on the senses – anyone who has ever owned an Audi can relate to the undying aroma of quality leather upon entering the cabin. The A5 does not compromise with exceptional build quality and a beautiful fusion of nature with hard, unpolished, aged looking woods that surround the cabin, and a leather steering so smooth it makes your hand slide around it seamlessly. Their expert craftsmanship is found in every corner from the hard buttons, to the leather wrapped gear lever, the interior makes you feel cozy. The rear occupants might have a bit of trouble with head room if they are over 6 ft since the slanted roof shaves off a few centimetres. Rear visibility is obstructed by C-pillars and has minimal visibility due to the rear sloping window.

A radical shift from convention, Audi TFSI combines direct injection with forced induction turbocharging. This unleashes higher power output with greater fuel efficiency and produces outstanding responsiveness—making the engine more of an extension of the driver. Mated to a dual clutch S-Tronic 7 Speed gear box, shifts will take place within a hundredth of a second.

Audi has discontinued making the ignition a slot where you push the key through and has gone for a more mainstream Keyless entry, with an ignition button.

What’s on offer?

The base A5 Sportback starts at AED 165,400 for the 1.8T. The Coupe’s 1.8T goes for AED 175,000 and the pricier cabrio at AED 195,000. 2.0T starts at AED 184,000 and goes to AED 214,000 for the cabrio. The only available V6 ranges from AED 209,000 till 240,000. And the all mighty RS5 only available as a Coupe or Cabrio has a high price tag to match its high HP figures starting at AED 315,000.


Sportbacks. Some manufacturers understand it, some don’t. Audi seems to have grasped the concept better than most with its aerodynamic A5. A car with looks that has not compromised on practicality with fully folding rear seats. It is a good example that Audi is an all in one car.
