Review Summary:

The Q7 was the first SUV from the German marque and the big daddy of the 'Q' range, but does the 2014 model have what it takes to stand against its competition?

Standard equipment

Exterior styling
Limited engine choices

From the exterior, the Audi Q7 is a strikingly large vehicle. Up front, it flaunts the same tired grille that can be found on the Q3 and Q5, along with a staggering 52 LED lights! Unlike the front, the sides of the Q7 are rather bland and fuss free with not a whole lot more than flared wheel arches. On the whole, the 2014 Audi Q7 comes off as dull and is in dire need of a major makeover.

Thankfully, the interior isn’t as big of a let down. The Q7 houses an abundance of high quality materials, a sizeable patch of suede on each door panel, 7 comfortable leather wrapped seats and a decent amount of equipment. With an absolute abundance of space, neither head or leg room is an issue when inside the Q7. Standard features include cruise control, heated side mirrors, electric front seats, parking sensors and exterior mirrors with integrated LED indicators.

Amongst a plethora of other features, the Q7 is equipped with TFSI – a system that injects  fuel directly into the combustion chamber to provide more power with the help of a supercharger. Additionally, the quattro permanent all wheel drive platform distributes 40% of the power to the front wheels and 60% to the rear to ensure better traction during acceleration and cornering.

What’s on offer?

The basic Q7 receives a 3.0 litre V6 TFSI engine that produces 272 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. The next grade of the Q7 receives a tuned up version the same engine producing 333 horsepower and 440 Nm of torque. Mated to an 8 speed Tiptronic transmission, the 272 horsepower Q7 hits the 100 km/h mark in 7.9 seconds, while the beefier 333 horsepower Q7 does it in 6.9 seconds.

Summing it…

Though the 2014 Audi Q7 looks dated when compared to the BMW X5 and Mercedes M-Class, there is no doubt that in terms of pricing, it has an edge over the competition. Prices for the 2014 Audi Q7 range from AED 253,000 for the basic model up to AED 285,000 for the range topping model.
