The Edge is a mid size crossover that began production in early 2006. The Edge fits neatly into the lineup between the smaller Escape and the larger Explorer. Following numerous spy shots of the latest model, have finally revealed the 2015 Edge Crossover Utility Vehicle and boy, it does look good.

The current isn’t a bad looking crossover and the number of them we see on our roads is a testament to that. However, the redesigned Edge has raised the bar for most Crossovers. The 2015 redesign sports straighter lines and deeper folds along with angular rear windows and rounded D-pillars. The powerful 3 bar chrome grille has been carried over from the current model and has been given the trapezoidal treatment to fit in with Ford’s recent offerings.

Although pictures of the interior haven’t surfaced as yet, rumor has it that the 2015 Edge’s interior will follow a simple and uncluttered design along with premium materials unlike the current Focus, Escape and Fiesta models. The trademark hands-free tailgate found in the Escape, along with an enhanced park assist system are expected to make their way to the 2015 Edge.

With safety being an important factor for most buyers, Ford plan on introducing Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning and Blind Spot Monitoring with Cross-Traffic Alert. What we aren’t sure of yet is if Ford’s recently revealed Obstacle Avoidance Program will make an appearance. The Obstacle Avoidance Program is an intelligent piece of kit that monitors the road for gaps around an obstacle and is capable of autonomously steering the vehicle around the obstacle should the driver not react to an aural warning.

In spite of Ford not revealing any performance figures just yet, it is safe to assume the 2015 Ford Edge will be fitted with an EcoBoost engine. Looks like we’ll just have to wait to find out if the Edge bags a V6 into the lineup.
