Review Summary:

Based on Toyota Land Cruiser platform, the LX adds styling and panache to its on and off road warrior brethren. It is rumored that the LX singly outsells all other luxury SUVs put together in the Middle East markets, such is its fan following. Although sighting one of these in the dunes is rare, a look around on the tarmac is sufficient to endorse its dominant play in its segment.

Pros

Exceptional luxury
Superb towing capacity
Off road capable

Cons

Dated platform
While third row seats have gone under the floor in more modern SUVs, the LX still features fold up seats.
Off road capabilities have been compromised for on road ride quality

The Lexus LX is a full size luxury SUV sold by Lexus since the mid 1990’s. Currently in its third generation, the 2014 Lexus LX looks better than ever.

Looks

Based on the Toyota Land Cruiser platform, the similarity in styling is evident. Wearing the large spindle grille and trademark Lexus LED daytime running lights up front, the LX is definitely a pleasant sight. Factors such as 10 spoke alloys and LED tail lights differentiate the LX from its economical brother, the Toyota Land Cruiser. If had in the newly introduced Sport trim, the LX proudly flaunts front and rear bumper spoilers, a gun metallic finished upper grille and honeycomb mesh lower grille with Fog Lamp bezel and a set of massive 20″ aluminium wheels.

Feels

Being a premium SUV, the 2014 Lexus LX does not skimp on materials such as leather. With numerous leather options to choose from, the LX caters to people with traditional and gaudy preferences alike. Ideal for this part of the world, the LX houses 28 air vents coupled with 4 separate climate controls within the cabin ensuring all occupants travel comfortably.

Engineering

When the time comes to get off the road and into the dirt, the LX isn’t one to complain. Fitted with Crawl Control, Multi-Terrain Select And Monitor – Shift into low range and 4-Wheel AHC (Active Height Control) the 2014 Lexus LX is more than willing to explore off the beaten path.

What’s on offer?

The 2014 Lexus LX continues to use a potent 5.7-liter V8 that makes 362 horsepower and 540 Nm of torque. Mated to a six speed automatic transmission, the Lexus LX is capable of meeting the 100 km/h mark in just 7.8 seconds before continuing to its electronically limited top speed of 220 km/h.

Summing it…

With 9 variants ranging from AED 340,000 to AED 410,000 available for the 2014 Lexus LX, the price seems justified for the badge, features and the car as a whole. Until, you realize the car it’s based on is nearly half the price.
