The is a small, reliable family car that is ever so popular on the roads of the U.A.E. Launched at the Meydan Hotel in Dubai, the all new Yaris Sedan packs in a lot more than just cosmetic upgrades.

From the front, the Yaris wears a new chrome grille, new headlights and a much larger trapezoidal lower grille enhancing its appearance. Move to the side and 2014 Yaris looks deceivingly longer than the previous generation. In addition to a straight line running through the side of the car, slimmer A and C pillars make the car look longer. The new tail lights are much larger, look a whole lot better and wrap neatly around the sides of the car.

Open the door and you’ll notice the interior has undergone major improvements. For starters, the much improved instrument gauge cluster has been returned to where it’s supposed to belong and is no longer a centre piece for passengers to stare at. Hop into the rear seat and the completely flat floor provides more leg room while making it easier to fit more than 2 passengers in the back. On the downside, due to lack of door cubby holes we did find rear storage space quite limited.

Having been fitted with a revised strut-type suspension up front and torsion beam suspension at the rear, the 2014 Yaris does offer a slightly smoother and more comfortable ride than it’s predecessor. On the technological front, apart from a new audio system with AUX and USB, the 2014 Yaris now offers push button start if you’re willing to dig deeper into your pockets and opt for the higher spec.

What’s on offer?

The 2014 Yaris can be had with either a 1.3 litre engine that is good for 84 horsepower and 121 Nm of torque or a 1.5 litre that is capable of producing 107 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to either a 4 speed automatic or 5 speed manual. With prices starting at AED 48,500 and going up to AED 57, 900 the 2014 Yaris is definitely going to give it’s competitors a run for their money.

Summing it…

On the whole, the 2014 Yaris is significantly better looking than its predecessor and with a starting price of just AED 48,500 the Yaris is not only competing with other Japanese rivals but is now taking the fight to the Koreans as well. If it’s the hatchback you’re interested in though, you’ll have to wait till around April 2014 to get your hands on one.
