2014 Chevrolet Impala - driving, front

The name Impala pops up images of tailfins, triple taillights, big, heavy and, somewhat sloppy (by today’s standards) American cars from the 60’s. If you also carry these impressions to date, there’s a surprise in store.

The 2014 is nothing like the Impala’s of the past. It looks modern and is well built.

The 2014 Chevrolet Impala is cleverly designed. Despite of its large proportions, the car does not come across as bulky from the outside. If anything, the sloping roofline that stretches almost till the end of its boot lip gives it a bit of sporty stance. There are hints of Chevrolet’s Camaro in the nose area of the car, which certainly does well for the eye appeal of the new Impala.

2014 Chevrolet Impala - driving, rear

True to reputation of large American cars, one thing that Impala offers in abundance is space. There is enough room in the car for a tall passenger to sit behind a tall driver and still have enough space to move their legs around without hitting the knee in the back of the driver’s seat. Add to that the cavernous boot space.

The 2014 Chevrolet Impala is an important flagship sedan for the American carmaker as it replaces the ageing Chevrolet Caprice – an integral part of the Arabian landscape for decades.

2014 Chevrolet Impala - dashboard

Modern infotainment and connectivity toys, latest safety features and reasonably good quality materials in the cabin are featured on the new Impala. Three variants are being offered in the Middle East – LS, LT and LTZ.

A powerful 3.6-liter V6, with 305 horsepower and 264 pound-feet of torque, is the only engine offered on all variants in this part of the world. A 6-speed automatic transmission does the duties of transferring all that power to the wheels.

The 2014 Chevrolet Impala LS will set you back by AED105,000 while the top end LTZ will knock AED129,000 off your bank balance. Competitively priced, we’d say.

2014 Chevrolet Impala - rim

Competition, according to the official word, is with Ford Taurus and Toyota Avalon. However, there is no reason why a potential car buyer might not compare the car with the likes of Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and Nissan’s Maxima or even Hyundai Azera – all extremely popular sedans in the Middle East region.
