The supposedly leaked images of a forthcoming F-Type Coupé which got the internet all a-flutter a few days ago have, it turns out, been kicking around since 2011.

The renderings which do indeed appear to be a hard top F-Type were prepared as part of a patent application prior to the 2011 Frankfurt motor show, essentially to prevent anyone from stealing the design of what was dubbed the C-X16 , unveiled at the show.

Do they foretell a fixed head F-Type? Probably, but Jaguar aren’t confirming that yet, most likely because they want to give the convertible plenty of time and space to establish itself before the next big reveal.

And there’s a good chance that this year’s Frankfurt show will see the unveiling of the Coupé but if it happens, the car’s styling is unlikely to offer any great surprises.  Of more interest will be powertrain options, with the possibility of a hardcore performance R-S model, which through technical and performance upgrades, could be the ultimate factory-produced F-Type.

This may well indeed be how a future F-Type Coupe will look.
