McLaren P1 debuts at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show
The McLaren P1, with its breathtaking exterior and powerful interiors, beautifully marked its presence at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. The goal of the super car makers is to make the McLaren P1 the best driver’s car in the world, on road as well as on track.
A whopping 916 PS (903 hp) generated by 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine coupled to an electric motor gives this beauty car tremendous power and instant throttle response. Top speed is electronically limited to 350 km/h (217 mph). If these numbers have not excited you enough already, imagine a car that can go from 0 to 300 km/h in less than 17 seconds! This is five seconds faster than the McLaren F1. The 0 to 100 km/h target is reached in barely three ticks of a clock.
50 years of racing experience has resulted in the production of the McLaren P1 – a car with unprecedented downforce for a road vehicle. Active aerodynamics and adjustable suspensions – features that are now banned in Formula 1 cars are feature on the McLaren P1.
To lower the car by 50mm in Race mode, the car utilizes the RaceActive Chassis Control (RCC). Technology behind the IPAS (Instant Power Assist System) and DRS (Drag Reduction System) give this strong car an instant boost of power and straight-line speed.
The revolutionary new carbon fibre monocoque body forms a complete structure that includes McLaren P1’s roof and its distinctive snorkel air intake – just to name a few parts. The MonoCage chassis also makes for a lightweight yet comfortable interior that feels like the cockpit of a jet-fighter plane. The carbon-fiber technology that McLaren is famous for is extensively used throughout.
The McLaren P1 name is inspired from the F1; P1 denoting Position 1. Particularly befitting since McLaren has booked 182 Grand Prix victories and 155 pole positions to-date in its 47-year F1 history.
McLaren will produce only 375 of these cars boldly priced with a start price tag of $1.3 million and that is before any taxes come in the play.
