Land Rover is planning to start production of the sedan at Pune, India with components supplied from the company’s UK plant. The initial Pune-built models will feature the company’s acclaimed 2.2-litre diesel engine, which will be introduced to the Indian market for the first time.

This will be the second model to be locally produced in India to cater to increasing demand for its vehicles in the Indian market. The Jaguars will be built alongside Land Rover Freelander 2, which is being produced in Pune since May 2011.

Jaguar Land Rover India recently announced a 32% growth in sales in 2012. Both, Freelander 2 and Jaguar XF have been well received in the Indian market.

In addition to the Indian operation, a joint venture Jaguar Land Rover manufacturing facility is under construction near Shanghai. The British car brand, now owned by the diversified Indian business giant , intends to increase its manufacturing footprint globally.

India is increasing gaining importance as a manufacturing base for car companies with sizeable facilities from Suzuki, Hyundai and recently, . The new Sunny sold in the Middle East region is shipped from ’s India facility. Other models that come from Indian production facilities to the Middle East markets are Renault’s Logan and Hyundai’s i20.

Whether or not the Jaguar XF will come to the Middle East from India cannot be said at this point in time, but it might make business sense to import cars from a facility closer to the Middle East than UK. Time will tell.
