Nissan at 2013 Detroit Motor Show

Nissan unveiled the Resonance concept midsize crossover at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show earlier today. Could this be the Murano replacement? Nissan Murano stirred a storm with its breakthrough design when it was launched and hasn’t changed much since, other than minor facelifts that have not added much appeal to the crossover. It is time for the next gen Nissan Murano to make appearance. Nissan Resonance, a futuristic concept, might hold design cues for the next Murano.
Nissan Resonance concept features and hybrid-electric powertrain in what can be seen as upping its game against Toyota. In another move, Nissan recently slashed price of its electric car, the LEAF by as much as US$6400 in the US market.
In addition to the Resonance concept, Nissan stand at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show also displayed the updated Versa Note hatchback, also known as the TIIDA in the Middle East. Redesigned for 2014, the new Versa (read as TIIDA) looks modern and more aerodynamic than its predecessor. The car features Nissan’s first ever Active Grille Shutter, which reduces drag by controlling airflow to the engine compartment. It appears smaller in dimension, but we were told by the Product specialist present at Nissan stand that the new Versa Note is more spacious than the previous car. Whether or not the Versa Note will be the next TIIDA for the Middle East could not be confirmed. Our guess – it will be.
In addition to these two, tucked away in other parts of the stand were the all-new Nissan Pathfinder and Nissan Sentra – both are expected in the Middle East soon. While Sentra will be an all new car for the Nissan product family in the region, the Pathfinder will replace an old, well known workhorse. Sentra will fill in nicely between the TIIDA and Altima and will rake in more sales for the Japanese car maker. The car is expected to hit the showrooms in the region later this month.
The all-new Nissan Pathfinder, expected within the first half of the year, has been drastically urbanized. The SUV features a monocoque body, a departure from the body on frame construction of the present Pathfinder. The new Pathfinder will certainly be more comfortable on road but weather it is able to retain its off road prowess in its new form remains to be seen. Undoubtedly, it will be compromised to a certain degree.
A one of its kind gold Nissan GT-R is also showcased to honor six-time Olympic champion Usain Bolt, the world’s fastest man. The car was auctioned on eBay and fetched in excess of US$200,ooo, we were informed. The money will be used for charitable cause.
