2013 Volkswagen Polo sedan

Coming in at the entry level of sedan portfolio, the Polo sedan promises German engineering at a Japanese price point. Is that good enough to steal the thunder from Japanese cars that have dominated the entry level sedan segment in the Middle East for what seems like forever now.

The 2013 Sedan comes with a 1.6 Litre engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission putting out 104hp. Clearly the numbers mean the emphasis is on economy rather than performance.

The 2013 Polo sedan front end looks distinctively Volkswagen. Generous use of chrome trimming on the grill does a good job making it seem more upscale than it really is. The 15inch alloy wheels, fog lamps, dual airbags for driver and passenger, ABS and central locking with keyless entry come as standard, which is probably a tad bit more than what you would expect to see on an entry level model.

2013 Volkswagen Polo Sedan

Inside, the 2013 Volkswagen Polo sedan has a cabin that hardly says budget. Having an 82mm longer wheelbase than the hatchback version the Polo sedan offers more legroom. Although Climate control is offered as an optional extra, the steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake lever all come wrapped in leather as standard. As with most modern cars, storage space is smart and plenty with compartments for water holders, storage pockets in the rear of the front seats and a glove box with a flap and glasses compartment. The stereo is MP3 compatible and remote locking with electric remote unlocking for the boot lid is standard. Parking sensors are available as an option which, given the dimensions of the car, are not exactly a necessity.

The 2013 Volkswagen Polo sedan seems to offer a lot of kit as standard. Features like cruise control, traditionally seen on higher spec models, comes as standard here. With the launch of this car, it is clear Volkswagen is aiming to steal budget conscious customers from the Japanese manufacturers using their trademark German engineering and build quality to seduce them. And with a spec like this on offer it can’t be too hard to win first time customers.
