Though has improved its image massively with the revamped XF and XK, it’s the arrival of the new XJ in 2010 that’s really showcasing the modern in its best light. Big executive cars have always been ’s most valued cars and the new XJ is a brilliant interpretation of everything a modern XJ can and should be.

It’s clear to see the design language of the XF in the look of the XJ – though naturally, it’s on a much larger scale. It’s a huge departure from the design of previous XJs.

Luxury and comfort are the main areas where Jaguar has gone big on with the new XJ. There’s the option of two-tone leather, a whole raft of real-wood veneers – plus a carbon fibre option (for the first time ever in a Jaguar) – and even optional colour choices for the carpets and headlining.

Technology features include a high-definition touch screen in the middle of the dashboard, which comes with dual-view technology on the top-end Supersport model. This allows the driver to view the sat-nav map whilst the front seat passenger watches a DVD – at the same time.

Jaguar’s 5.0-litre V8 engine is offered in both naturally aspirated 385bhp and supercharged 470bhp or 510bhp states of tune, with the power sent to the rear wheels via the six-speed automatic gearbox that does a sterling job in the XF and XK.  A smaller 3-litre V6 engine was also introduced last year to make the XJ more affordable. This 3-litre engine makes 238bhp and 293Nm of torque. The XJ is offered in standard and long wheelbase form, with the latter version expected to be popular in our part of the world where passenger comfort is of the highest priority.
