2012 Nissan Patrol | new car review

The Patrol enters virtually unchanged. Even though it’s been two years since it’s launch, Nissan is still calling this the all-new Patrol. The older version (Patrol Safari) is still on sale as it’s still in demand but sales will continue till stocks deplete.

This 2.7-ton SUV has dimensions large enough to belittle everything else on the road. It’s massive chrome grille and 20-inch wheels are amongst the largest found on any SUV, the latter being second choice for anyone interested in weekend dune bashing. Blacked out pillars are borrowed from popular styling culture and gels well with tinted windows.

The insides of this 7 seater are limo-like, luxuriously appointed with plush seating and a sea of space you can lose yourself in. You often tend to forget you are in a rugged and capable SUV. Fit and finish are not Germanic but they have done a decent job and the leather upholstery is soft textured, quite nappa like.

There is a choice of two engines on the . The entry level SE gets a 317-bhp 5.6-litre V8 coupled with a 5-speed Automatic transmission, while the LE variant gets a Direct Injection 400-bhp 5.6-litre V8 coupled to a 7 speed automatic transmission. Nissan also introduced a manual XE variant that gets the same 317-bhp engine with a 6-speed manual transmission.

All variants come with six airbags as standard along with ABS and EBD and optional safety equipment included blind spot assist and radar guided adaptive cruise control.
