Complete details on the Ford EcoSport from the Beijing Auto Show 2012

The production version of ’s EcoSport looks very similar to the concept version unveiled at the Delhi Auto Expo earlier this year.

Remember that the EcoSport is a global model and will be sold in 100 markets around the world. This stylish urban SUV could fit perfectly in Muscat or Dubai as parking space and traffic congestion pose huge problems for motorists in megacities.

Compared to the concept, the EcoSport, in its production form, lacks LED head lamps and tail lamps. The radio antenna was missing on the concept model for obvious reasons. The spare wheel is covered and the lower part of the front bumper has been adorned with additional cladding to protect it from scratching and scraping.

The EcoSport is powered by a 1-liter turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine generating 120bhp of power and 170Nm of torque from as low as 1,500rpm. This engine also features direct injection and variable valve timing. Paired to it is a 6-speed dual clutch automatic transmission or a five-speed manual transmission.

The EcoSport will be manufactured in three locations around the world (Brazil, India and Thailand). It is bodied on the Fiesta platform borrowing heavily on components including interior panels and modules.

The EcoSport sits 200mm above the ground with a 550mm water wading capability. The 346 liter trunk capacity turns into 560 liters when the seats are folded. Ford is introducing technologies from more expensive Ford models, notably the SYNC technology that pairs the on-board system with the mobile phone. SYNC can make phone calls, read out SMS messages and play audio tracks through voice commands.

Automatic climate control, Hill Launch Assist, Keyless Entry, Push-button Start, ESP, TC and ABS will be some notable features on this new model.
