2012 Audi A8 L | new car review

Now in its third generation, the 2012 L is offered in the Middle East as a long wheelbase model only and goes up against the traditional segment leader the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the BMW 7 Series.

The A8 was redesigned in 2009 and the 2012 model year receives fresh design changes to the interior as well as the exterior. This flagship variant comes with every imaginable feature in a car and by selecting from the long list of optional features and packages you can truly customise this car to suit your taste. You can select from a variety of interior colours, wood finishes, comfort options and entertainment options. A variety of features and options are available for the exterior as well.

The 2012 A8 L comes with two engine options, the 3-litre TFSI V6 and the 4.2-litre FSI V8. The 3-litre TFSI produces 290bhp at 4850-6500rpm and 420Nm of torque at 2500-4850rpm. The bigger 4.2 litre engine makes 372bhp at 6800rpm and 445Nm of torque at 3500rpm. Both these engines are paired with an 8-speed tiptronic Quattro all-wheel-drive system.

The 2012 Audi A8 L is also available with a W12 engine. The W12 variant, other than having a massive engine also has noticeable changes to the exterior that distinguishes it from the V6 and the V8 engine models. These changes are to the headlights that get the LED array as standard and also to the front bumper and the grille.

This 6.3-litre W12 engine produces 500bhp of power at 6200rpm and 625Nm of torque at 4750rpm. This engine is paired with the same 8-speed transmission found on the V6 and the V8 models.
