Ford has released a statement that it will unveil four new vehicles at Auto China 2012 which includes three SUVs. This is part of their strategy to introduce 15 new vehicles by 2015. Ford has not provided details on the brand or type of vehicles, but it is believed that the production version of the EcoSport and the Chinese version of the Kuga are part of this lineup.

Popularly known as the Beijing Auto Show, the venue opens its doors to the media on the 23rd of April.

Ford EcoSport side profile

The EcoSport is a global SUV that will be sold in over 100 countries starting this year. Ford showcased the concept version of the EcoSport at the Delhi Auto Expo in January and said it will powered by a 1-liter, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine.

Direct injection and turbocharging enables the three-cylinder engine to provide the performance of a four-cylinder engine while providing more fuel economy than a three-cylinder. Ford plans to manufacture this model in at least three locations (India, Brazil and Thailand) and could utilise capacity in China as well. There is a strong feeling that the EcoSport will be introduced in the Middle East next year.

The Chinese version of the second-generation Kuga that was on display at last month’s Geneva Motor Show. It locks horns with the Volkswagen Tiguan and the Honda CR-V in perhaps the most competitive market segment of China.

The three all-new sports utility vehicles, according to Ford, is part of ongoing efforts to take leadership in the SUV segment. Ford says it is serious about growth in China this year and has expanded its Chongqing facility to make way for new models as well as cater to an expanding customer base.
