The is for those who want the S-Class with two doors. This ‘Comfort Light’ version is based on the S-Class and follows the same development cycle as the S-Class to ensure it never falls behind on luxury, prestige and comfort. It was given a facelift in 2011 and remains unchanged for 2012.

There are four variants of the CL-Class on sale. The CL 500, CL 600, CL 63 AMG and the CL 65 AMG. The 2012 CL 500 and the CL 63 AMG get a newly developed 8-cylinder engine. It has features like direct petrol injection with spray-guided combustion and twin turbochargers.

The CL 500 with its 4.7-litre twin turbo V8 engine produces 430bhp and a maximum torque of 700Nm and achieves a top speed (electrically limited) of 250 km/h. off. In the CL 63 AMG the new AMG 5.5-litre V8 bi-turbo engine achieves an output of 536bhp and a maximum torque of 800Nm. In conjunction with the AMG Performance Package the figures increase to 563bhp and 900Nm.

The CL 600 with its 5.5-litre twin turbo V12 engine develops 509bhp and a maximum torque rating of 830Nm. Maximum torque is developed from 1800rpm onwards and is maintained till 3500rpm. The top-of-the-line CL 65 AMG with its 6.0-litre V12 AMG twin turbo powerplant produces 620bhp and a maximum torque of 1000 Nm.

On the inside it gets all the comfort and safety goodies present in the S-Class and the only obvious difference is the smaller rear seats.
