2012 Toyota Prius | World’s best selling hybrid gets a facelift
The world’s best-known and best-selling hybrid vehicle, the Toyota Prius gets a facelift and a few mechanical tweaks for 2012. The aesthetic improvements at the front end include clear-lens headlights and relocated LED DRLs and foglamps. The styling changes add an extra 20mm the car’s length, but Prius’s wheelbase and aerodynamic performance (Cd 0.25) remain unchanged. On the insides the Prius gets new more adjustable front seats and new upholstery. Standard on all grades is the Toyota Touch touchscreen control system and as an option comes the 8-speaker JBL audio system, with power-saving GreenEdge speaker technology. This increased body rigidity increased welding spots to the frame allows for softer suspension tuning improving ride comfort without affecting the car’s dynamics. The redesigned bracing has increased steering column rigidity and additional soundproofing materials have improved noise and vibration levels. At 89g/km, the new Prius has the lowest C02 emissions in its class while the mixed cycle economy is rated at 3.9l/100km. The 2012 Prius is available in 8 exterior colours, including new Dark Blue and Cabernet Red metallic. Later in the year Prius will grow, with the introduction of the ultra-efficient Prius Plug-in Hybrid and Prius+, the world’s first 7-seat full hybrid MPV.
