Volvo to debut XC60 plug-in hybrid concept | 2012 Detroit Motor Show

Volvo will showcase its green technology at the 2012 Detroit motor show by taking the wraps off its XC60 Plug-in Hybrid Concept, which is essentially three cars rolled into one. Volvo claims it is an electric car, a highly economical hybrid and a powerful high-performance car all rolled into one. The car will have three drive modes, ‘Pure, Hybrid or Power’, which can be toggled by the driver depending on how he wants the power from the electric motor and the petrol engine to be utilised.
With this plug-in concept, Volvo aims at solving the problem that has been plaguing hybrids since their inception, which is the ideal balance of range, fuel economy and power. Even though this concept debuts on the XC60, the company is yet to decide which model will be commercially available with this technology. This technology is being developed in conjunction with the upcoming Volvo Environmental Architecture engine family.
Whichever the model may be, Volvo is certain that it will be at least two more years before this technology lands on American shores.Tags: Concept car, Detroit Motor Show, Electric Car, Hybrid, plug-in, Volvo, Volvo XC60
