2012 Porsche Panamera 8 hard facts about the GTS. Who would buy a Panamera GTS? The GTS edition is for the brand-conscious person looking for a high-performance, distinctive looking and relatively practical sports “sedan”. What are the specifications ? At 4.97mts long and 1.93mts wide, the GTS has true proportions of a full-size “sedan”; it weighs 1920kg. The front engine 4.8-litre V8 sourced from the Panamera S is uprated by 30bhp and 20Nm. It produces 430bhp at 6,700 rpm and 520 Nm at 3,500 rpm. Torque is delivered to all 4 wheels via ’s 7-speed double-clutch gearbox, PDK. Is it a true sports sedan? Yes. The Sport Chrono pack comes standard, it includes Launch control which allows for 4.5 second 0 to 100km/h runs. Passing acceleration , specifically, 80 to 120km/h is clocked in 3.2 seconds. Top speed is a drag-limited 288km/h. Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) in combination with the electronic rear axle differential lock and Torque Vectoring (PTV Plus) reduces body roll, improves traction and handling. This 4-door coupe can put a few sportscars to shame. Add to that PCM or Communication management relays performance stats on the centre console display. 2012 Porsche Panamera What differentiates the GTS from other Panameras? Black detailing like bi-Xenon headlights with black inner bezels and matt black tailpipes etc. and design cues from the Panamera Turbo such as 19” wheels, 5 mm rear wheel spacers, larger brake discs and red brake calipers. It rides 10mm lower than most other Panameras. The decorative stitching in Carmine Red or GT Silver on the foot mats, dashboard and centre console augment aesthetic appeal. Distinguishing it further are ‘Panamera GTS’ lettering on kick plates and in the instrument cluster and ‘GTS’ embroidered headrests. What features does it have for convenience, entertainment and practicality? Options include Navigation, Seat ventilation, Adaptive cruise control, Lane Change Assist and Blind Spot Warning, Burmester Audio as opposed to standard Bose audio. Rear Seat Entertainment, USB and iPod connectivity and a rear view camera, amongst others. The options list is large but every tick of the box adds another chunck to the already handsome price. The boot accomodates 445-litres of luggage, extendable upto 1.263 with the rear seats folded. 2012 Porsche Panamera How much does it hurt your wallet and the environment? Prices start at AED 504,900, guaranteeing exclusivity. A decently optioned model should be good for AED 570,000. Claimed fuel economy on a mixed cycle is 10.7l/100km; the 100-litre fuel tank gives the GTS has a theoretical range of 935 km (costing you AED 675 on premium fuel in U.A.E.). The CO2 emissions of 256g/km is not exactly planet saving. What about the Panamera GTS would you not like? Panameras in essence are 4-seaters, larger families should look elsewhere. The polarizing looking means not everyone is a fan; but it does have street presence. What are your other alternatives in this segment? The Maserati Quattroporte, the Aston Martin Rapide and the Mercedes Benz CLS. 2012 Porsche Panamera
