The Speed Collection Vol.1 | Dubai Motor Show 2011

Posted on Nov 11, 2011 by

In all the dazzle of the maiden day at the Dubai International Motor Show 2011, we managed to hand pick a few of the glorious speedsters that would make anyone go goo goo gaa gaa. Enjoy!

2012 Ferrari 458 Spider

2012 Ferrari 458 SpiderThe most beautiful Ferrari of recent years and arguably amongst the best ever that have come out of the Maranello. It shares that aura with Ferraris of yore and its beauty makes your stare shamelessly.  Combine that with the perplexity of hard top convertible on a mid-engine car and you get, quite simply, one of the Modern Wonders of the World.

2012 Carrera S (991)

2012 Porsche 911 Carrera SIt’s 40 year evolution has been a revolution. The two most talked about sides about this story is that unlike most manufacturers, Porsche have down sized the engine capacity for their base model Carrera. Before a 3.6-litre, now a 3.4-litre…while power output has gone up by 5bhp, now peaking at 350bhp. The Carrera S gets 400bhp. Also the 911 is the first car in the world to be offered with a 7-speed manual gearbox. It’s all in the hood!!!

2012 Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster

2012 Mercedes SLS AMG RoadsterLike I mentioned in my “Spirit of AMG tours the Yas” article, who in their right mind would buy this over its Gullwing sibling for which the SLS is famous for. Don’t get me wrong, this is beautiful and fast machine, but if you are think of purchasing one, stay off the comparison.

2012 LP 700-4

2012 Lamborghni Aventador LP 700-4

The ‘Best Supercar’ as voted by MEMA has no qualms and never looks flustered. It’s in town and it has everyone running sh*t scared. Imagine you are at a bullfight at Pamplona, you are the matador and you are about to be tossed about by this beast….and you know it. The latest rendition of the Raging Bull is 690 horse strong and does 0 to 100 km/h in a scant 2.9 seconds.

2012 Nissan GT-RThere is no supercar that parades it’s ‘Supercar’ status more subtly than the GT-R. Infact it is a little shy sharing the limelight, it feels out of place. But get it to a race track and it will slay anything from Germany, Italia or North America. “Gentleman, all in a days work” says the gentle giant as it retires from racetrack to some garage. Power is up by a few on its 2011 model, now at 542bhp.

Watch out for Vol.2 of The Speed Collection at the 2011 where things get a little OTT; showmanship and grudge matches are everyday business.
