Chevrolet unveils the 2012 Camaro ZL1

Chevrolet has revealed a high performance version of the iconic muscle car at the ongoing 2011 Chicago Motor Show.

Called the Camaro ZL1 the car features a 550bhp 6.2-litre supercharged V8 engine which powers the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission with dual clutch. In comparison the regular 6.2-litre Camaro produces ‘just’ 426bhp. To harness the added power the ZL1 comes equipped with a new electric power steering system, Magnetic Ride Control and larger Brembo brakes.

The Camaro ZL1 distinguishes itself from the standard Camaro by an updated body kit which includes a new front bumper, vertical fog lamps, new aluminium bonnet and a spoiler at the rear. The ZL1 also rides on larger 20-inch alloy wheels.

The Camaro ZL1 is expected to go on sale in the beginning of 2012.
