The Batelco team completed a clean sweep of the Dubai Kartdrome Endurance Challenge by winning the Motorcity 24 Hours race.

The win marks three out of three triumphs for the Bahraini-based team and saw them battle off some very strong competition from experience karters and racing drivers.

After a Le Mans-style running start, Batelco battled for the lead straight away with the Seychelles Racing team – featuring F1 reserve driver Andy Soucek and top female karter Fabienne Lanz – and the Ocean Rubber team that included GT racer Mohammed Al Mutawaa and local kart ace Paul Chatenay.

For the first 12 hours only a few laps separated the top six teams but as the race wore on Batelco started to establish a lead thanks to their consistency on the Kartdrome track, which for the first time was run in an anti-clockwise direction.

After 24 hours, the Batelco team had notched up 1,156 laps – four more than Ocean Rubber, who picked up second place ahead of Seychelles Racing. Other teams included a strong international contingent featuring racers from France, Belgium, the Ukraine and Russia.

Batelco’s Ramez Azzam said: “It was a tough race. We were not the fastest team out there but we had a good strategy and we were very consistent. It was a real team effort. Winning here at the Kartdrome is always a great feeling and I am proud to be part of this Batelco team.”

In the Corporate category the Choueiri Group triumphed over the MBC Action team and OMD racing, but the latter’s third place clinched them the overall 2010 Endurance Corporate Challenge title.
