After a long wait, BMW has released information and images of the production version 1 Series M Coupe.

The 2012 1 Series M Coupe uses BMW’s twin-turbo 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine which belts out 335bhp.

This is the same engine which does duty in the BMW Z4 sDrive35is and can propel the relatively light car from 0-100kph in a claimed 4.7 seconds.

BMW will launch the 1 Series M Coupe with only a six-speed manual transmission.

As with all ‘M’ versions the 1 Series M Coupe comes with the M Drive selector, which improves throttle response, and M Dynamic Mode which allows the driver to extract more performance out of the car.

As compared to the stock 135i Coupe the M version has a wider track and weighs 35kg less. It rides on M spec 19-inch wheels shod with 245/35 profile tyres at the front and 265/35 profile tyres at the rear.

The 1 Series M Coupe will make its international debut at the 2011 Detroit Motor Show in January.
