New V12 engine

Lamborghini has unveiled an all-new 6.5-litre V12 engine and a new type of transmission called Independent Shifting Rod (ISR), which will debut in the Murcielago successor.

This is significant news because ever since the Lamborghini 350 GT was launched with a V12 engine in 1964, every twelve-cylinder Lamborghini has used a derivative of the same engine including the Miura, Countach, Murciélago and even the Reventón.

That changes with this all new engine, which has been developed at the company’s Sant’Agata Bolognese plant. The new motor produces 700bhp and is claimed to be more fuel efficient as well. The new engine will be mated to a new ISR transmission which offers 50 percent faster shift time as compared to a dual-clutch gearbox, while weighing considerably less.

Now all eyes are on the Murcielago successor which is expected to be powered by this new V12 engine when it is launched next year.
