Volskwagen eager to snap up

is eager to snap up Alfa Romeo from its parent company , according to a report in Automotive News Europe.

The report suggests that the cash rich Volkswagen has developed a strong liking for Alfa Romeo. This interest in the Italian carmaker is fuelled by Volkswagen’s plans to overtake Toyota in being the world’s largest carmaker by 2018. For this VW has already amassed a huge cash reserve of $22.3 billion a part of which it is willing to spend in acquiring Alfa Romeo.

Fiat on the other hand has revealed that it does not want to sell Alfa Romeo at all as it has charted ambitious growth plans for the niche brand. Fiat wants Alfa Romeo to become a world class company with sales of 5,00,000+ units by 2014.
