A new-look Silverstone circuit hosts the British Grand Prix this weekend.

The track has undergone substantial changes since last year’s event with a whole new section that should make average speeds higher and prove tough on tyres.

As the teams and drivers prepare for the 10th race of the season, McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton leads the drivers’ world championship on 127 points, with his team mate Jenson Button second on 121 and Sebastian Vettel of in third on 115.

McLaren will have a major new upgrade available for its cars this weekend, with the team having completed its own version of a blown rear diffuser, as first employed by Red Bull.

There are no major updates for the Red Bull team after it introduced several new parts during the last race in Valencia.

For , the Silverstone GP marks a return to the circuit where the Scuderia won its first F1 race in 1951. Driver Felipe Massa believes his and team mate Fernando Alonso’s performances will reflect how the Italian team has progressed after a disappointing start.

“This weekend should provide a very clear test of how much we have improved, both in pure performance and in terms of where we stand against the teams currently ahead of us,” the Brazilian driver said.

The action begins with practice tomorrow (Friday, July 9) followed by qualifying on Saturday and the race on Sunday.
