There were mixed fortunes for racing team AUH Motorsports team during round two of the European Radical Masters series at Germany’s Nurburgring.

Two cars from the UAE entered the event – in the SR3 class, the AUH-prepared Team Abu Dhabi car of Humaid Al Masaood and Jassim Al Shamsi showed good potential but was hampered in both of the weekend’s races by a spin and technical problems. The SR8 class car of Jordan Grogor and last year’s SR3 champion Bassam Kronfli also faced problems, but managed to score a fourth place finish in the first of the weekend’s races.

Al Masaood qualified the Team Abu Dhabi car in ninth for race one and drove a steady stint before handing over to Al Shamsi in 10th. Al Shamsi started to push hard to make up positions, but had a spin that dropped him to 12th in class.

Al Shamsi’s qualifying session put the car into third place on the starting grid for race two and dropped to fourth before handing over to Al Masaood. However, handling problems developed towards the end of the race, and the car finished in seventh place.

Jordan Grogor qualified in third for the first SR8 race and held position until the driver change, when a slip up during the pit stop cost the pair 30 seconds. Kronfli recovered well to finish fourth.

Race two saw Kronfli start from 27th on the grid after technical problems during qualifying, but he climbed to 16th by the end of the first lap and reached eighth place before an incident at the track’s hairpin saw him bumped off the track. At the driver changeover he had recovered to 11th, and Grogor continued the charge to sit in sixth place before an engine failure finished their race. The final classification put them in 20th place.

The next race is over the weekend of July 24 and 24 at the Zandvoort circuit in the Netherlands.
