2011 Renault Sandero
Posted on June 14, 2010 by Phill Tromans
The Sandero is an entry-level, compact five-door hatchback from Renault, introduced to the region in 2010.
The French company claims it offers a combination of comfort and space with a competitive price – it’s available with a starting price of 39,500AED in the UAE at the time of writing.
As befits the price, it’s rather low on specification. But it will seat five and is powered by a 1.6-litre engine that comes in two states of tune. The 320-litre capacity boot can be extended to 1,200 litres by folding down the rear seats.
Available in 11 colours, the Sandero comes in two trim levels – PE and SE. The PE grade comes with an 86bhp version of the engine and is available with either five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. The manual PE rides on 14-inch steel wheels and comes with central locking, front electric windows and manual air conditioning, as well as a radio/CD player with MP3 CD-playing capabilities. Opt for the automatic PE and you’ll get 15-inch steel rims.
The SE grade engine puts out 104bhp and packs more kit in – chrome touches on the outside and body-coloured bumpers, a height adjustable driver’s seat and a trip computer inside, as well as rear electric windows, electric wing mirrors and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. This top-spec Sandero is 46,500AED.
The availability of the different trim options depends on individual dealers.
Safety-wise, the Sandero comes with ABS and Emergency Brake Assist only as an option, rather than standard. The driver gets an airbag, but a front passenger bag costs extra. The SE model gets a third three-point seatbelt for the middle rear seat (the PE models get only a two-point belt in the same place).
The Sandero comes with a three-year/100,000km warranty.
