Toyota delays launch of FT-86 sports car by two years

If reports from Japan’s Best Car are to be believed Toyota has postponed the launch of the FT-86 concept-based sports car by two years.

Instead of the expected 2011 launch the Toyota and co-developed car will only come around by 2013.

The reasons being cited for the delay include a re-thought of the car’s design, market feasibility and its powertrain which is expected to now feature a hybrid option as well.

Reports also indicate that Toyota is gauging the success of the Honda CR-Z as the FT-86’s powertrain will be influenced by the former. The new look FT-86 is now scheduled to make a debut at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show.
