Under pressure from the recent fire incidents involving its budget Nano city car, Indian car maker Tata has revealed the findings of its investigation.
According to the manufacturer of the world’s cheapest car, the two new Nano cars which caught fire earlier this year were isolated incidents, unrelated to the basic safety of the car.
A Nano that caught fire in Mumbai did so because of a foreign object on the hot exhausts system while a similar event in Gujarat had a leaking fuel line.
Tata Motors has announced that it will look into the safety aspect of all Nano cars sold till now and its dealers will call and fix appointments with owners beginning May 24. To reassure buyers and the international media Tata Motors has clarified that the Nano was tested using more than 300 prototypes, which covered more than two million test kilometres under all conditions.
