Ford reveals new city car concept at Beijing Motor Show
Ford unveiled a new urban car concept at the 2010 Beijing Motor Show.
The Start concept is a design study aimed at developing a small and affordable city car. Designed by Ford Strategic Concepts Group in California, USA, the Start concept is a learning exercise to explore how future small cars from Ford could be made better.
The two-door concept’s styling is in line with Ford’s new Kinetic design language and features colour moulded body panels which are made from recyclable composites and do not need to be painted. Ford engineers have tried to keep the car’s weight down by using fewer raw materials and a lightweight aluminium and steel structure. The simple shape of the car is aimed at making it less expensive to produce and thus more affordable.

Ford Start Concept
The Start concept is powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged and direct-injected Ecoboost engine which is expected to make its way into future small cars from Ford.
This diminutive engine is expected to produce about 100bhp while giving class leading fuel economy and emitting less than 100g/km of CO2.
