The Rapide is built on a DB9-derived chassis and is powered by a 470bhp, 6.0-litre V12 engine which drives the rear wheels through a six-speed Touchtronic 2 automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Aston Martin claims a 0 to 100kph time of 5.1 seconds and a top speed of more than 300kph. The Rapide’s primary competition is the Porsche Panamera but even the top end Panamera Turbo is significantly cheaper and faster than the Aston Martin.

Compared to the Panamera, the Rapide scores primarily with its suave and well proportioned looks and interior quality ain loses out on interior space, especially for back seat occupants. The car’s beautiful design has received rave reviews and is the trump card Aston Martin is playing to fill in the order books.

Fashionable elements like the inset door handles and the B-pillar, hidden behind the windows, add to the car’s appeal. The car will also feature a full length glass roof and LED head lights and tail lights. The Aston Martin Rapide is meant for those looking for exclusivity and a balance between head-turning good looks and performance that can be enjoyed by up to four occupants.

The odd fact here is that Aston Martin has chose to put the detuned version of their 6.0 V12 engine rated at 470 bhp in the porkiest of the bunch, when they could have opted for the 510bhp engine available on the V12 Vantage….the only good news is Max Torque has risen from 570 Nm to 600 Nm.
As with the Panamera, the Rapide is not the prettiest in pictures and ……please tell me AM is banking on their “British Hertiage” to sell their car over performance specs, coz to the German, the Rapide is nothing more than a speck in its rear view mirror.
