2011 Hyundai Sonata launched in the Middle East

The new Sonata has been officially launched in the .

The 2011 model made its regional debut four months ago at the 2009 Dubai Motor Show and has now gone on sale in the UAE to be soon followed by Saudi Arabia and other Middle East countries.

The curvy mid-size sedan takes a complete departure in terms of styling from the model it replaces. It is also longer and wider than the previous generation Sonata, offering more interior room as well.

The GCC model comes with either a 176bhp 2.4 litre engine or a 163bhp 2.0 litre motor, both being four-cylinder units. Strangely, Hyundai has not introduced a six-cylinder engine in the new Sonata yet.

Both engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The 2011 Sonata is priced from 67,900AED for the 2.4 GL model in the UAE and comes with good levels of equipment across variants.

Big change in the looks department. Good job. Hyundai says the old Sonata will be sold along side the new one for the taxi sales and that the new Sonata will not be sold as taxi car initially. The Koreans are expecting the new Sonata to be a game changer for them. All the best.
