When announced the Rapide, performance enthusiasts were sceptical of the four-door car’s sporting ability.

To address that and make sure that the new Aston Martin was true to the brand’s character the car was put through its paces at Germany’s famous Nurburgring race track while development.

Now that the Rapide is in showrooms Aston Martin has entered it into the Nurburgring 24 Hours endurance race, which starts on May 15, 2010.

The carmaker aims to prove the Rapide’s ability and assure buyers that its larger size and higher weight do not limit its performance potential. The race car will compete in near-standard specification apart from mandatory race safety modifications, reduced interior trim for weight saving, a re-tuned suspension and slick tyres.

The Rapide will be driven by a team of company engineers who will be joined by their CEO, Ulrich Bez.
