Chevrolet has unveiled a new limited-edition Corvette Z06 Carbon aimed at narrowing the gap between the standard Corvette Z06 and the top-end Corvette ZR1.
The 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon has been built to pay tribute to the 50th anniversary of Corvette’s first race in the 24 Hours of LeMans and only 500 units of the special edition will ever be built.
While the Z06 Carbon employs the standard Z06’s engine, it gets better at handling and braking thanks to Magnetic Selective Ride Control and Brembo carbon ceramic brakes borrowed from the ZR1. The limited edition Corvette also features a special carbon pattern engine cover, black headlamps and mirrors, ZR1-style spoiler, carbon fibre raised hood and carbon fibre rockers and splitter which give it a sportier look while reducing weight and increasing aerodynamic efficiency.
Riding on black 20-spoke 19-inch front/20-inch rear wheels clad with Michelin PS2 tyres, the new variant is being claimed by the company as being the best balanced Corvette ever.
When it goes on sale later this year the Corvette Z06 Carbon will be available in two colours; Inferno Orange and Supersonic Blue with matching interior trim. The cabin features a unique steering wheel emblem, sill plate, logoed headrest and plush suede upholstery.
