Audi has revealed the A5-based RS 5 ahead of the car’s debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. The car will make it to the Middle East by the end of 2010, though prices and exact specifications aren’t known as yet.
The two-door Sportback RS5 is the latest addition to Audi’s high performance RS line-up and features a high-revving 4.2-litre V8 which produces 450bhp. Weighing 1,725kg, Audi claims the RS 5 can sprint from 0 to 100kph in 4.6 seconds and hit a top speed of 280kph (without limiter). It features Audi’s new seven-speed S tronic automatic transmission with dual-clutch and paddle shifters on the steering wheel.
Apart from Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system, the RS 5 also boasts of a host of performance-enhancing features like launch control and a new centre differential.
Visual cues like the flared fenders, a revised front bumper with splitter, larger air intakes for the engine and brakes, a rear diffuser with integrated oval exhaust pipes, a rear spoiler that automatically extends at speed and matte aluminium accents distinguish the RS 5 from the relatively understated A5.
The interior features Alcantara and leather-covered sport seats, black gauges with white lettering, a perforated leather-covered steering wheel, carbon fibre and aluminium accents.
