The 5 HYbrid4 concept

Peugeot has taken the covers off its new hybrid concept simply dubbed 5.

The French car maker will debut the 5 at the 2010 in March. The concept is said to showcase Peugeot’s new design theme, which along with the futuristic SR1 concept will pave the way for the styling of future production models.

The 5  is a mid-size premium sedan expected to mature into the next-generation Peugeot 508. It features the Peugeot’s new Hybrid4 technology and incorporates a 163bhp 2.0-litre HDi diesel engine driving the front wheels and a 37bhp electric motor powering the rear wheels.

Both power plants combined produce 200bhp with the capability to run solely on electric power at low speeds. Peugeot claims that the HYbrid4 system is modular in nature and can be plugged in to a variety of naturally aspirated engines. The technology debuts next year in the Peugeot 3008 crossover.

The concept also features a sculpted body with LED detailing front and rear, an aluminium bonnet and large 19-inch wheels.
