AED1,000? 5,000? How about 1,390,000? Yes, one million, three hundred and ninety thousand dirhams, or $378,400.

That was the price that the plate G 60 fetched at a sale in Dubai. The emirate’s Roads and Transport Authority held the auction at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel and raised a total of AED23,775,000 from 105 plates.

We don’t know who put up the massive bid for G60, but we’re sure that with that kind of money, they’ll have a good choice of cars to mount their new purchase on. Our best guess is that we’ll see it on an AMG-powered Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen.

Other pricye plates included G27, which fetched 1.3 million dirhams, H90 which went for 1.25 million dirhams and G45, which sold for 1.8 million.

Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of the RTA’s Licensing Agency, said: “The auction made good progress towards meeting the demand of a wide segment of the public wishing to own distinguished numbers.

“This is reflected in the attendance of about 300 bidders.”
