The date for the eagerly awaited Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has been revised and will now take place on November 1, 2009 and not on November 15, 2009 as was previously disclosed, a statement from the sport’s governing body, the FIA, has confirmed.
Even though there is change in the date, the F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will still be the final race for the 2009 season. There has been a change in the dates of the race at the Bahrain Circuit as well. Instead of the usual third place in the calendar, the 2009 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix will be held on April 26, 2009.
Due to this, in the race calendar, the Chinese Grand Prix has moved a week ahead of the Bahrain with the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix now slotted for behind Australia, Malaysia and China.
Another major development in the world of motorsports over the weekend was that of the election of Mohammed Ben Sulayem, the veteran Middle East rally ace into the FIA World Motor Sport Council and also naming him as Vice President of the FIA for Sport by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile.
With his appointment, Mohammed Ben Sulayem has become the first Arab to earn a place on the most powerful body in world motor sport. FIA President Max Mosley confirmed Sulayem’s double appointment during the FIA General Assembly in Paris over the weekend.
The official 2009 FIA Formula One World Championship calendar is confirmed as follows:
|21 June||Great Britain|
|23 August||Europe (Valencia)|
|1 November||Abu Dhabi|
